Erin go brawl

Happy St Patrick's Day to all!

Many years ago, too many for me to recount, a young Irish monk drove all the serpents from Ireland and brought the word of the Lord to the masses of the emerald island...or so the story goes.

On this day, we who claim our heritage form the noble little green island, celebrate St Patrick's achievements by putting on everything in our closet that is green (because we wouldn't wear these hideous clothes on any other day), going out to the local Irish pub and tipping back a few cold ones in the name of good ole St Pat. Unfortunately, too many of us have forgotten that today is actually a religious holiday in Ireland celebrating the life of an Irish saint. I'm not here to preach (OK, maybe a little), but on this day, I feel we should try to remember the message of peace and faith that St Patrick preached to the masses before we toss back too many Guinness, sing out of key, and punch the guy standing next to us. If you're not religious, then see this day as a day of renewal. A day when the weather breaks and Spring is about to be sprung. A day to begin seeing the best start to come out (blah, blah, blah, Okay, enough of that). For you cynics out there, see this day as as the last cold day of winter, the second day of the NCAA tournament and only one of fifteen more days you have to suffer until opening day. Whatever the reason you celebrate, celebrate with the good nature of St Patrick in your heart and try not to let him be remembered with a drunken Irish brawl.

With that stated, I'd like to say, I hope you all are in Heaven a half hour before the devil knows your dead. Erin go bragh. The first pint is on me. Marquess of Queensbury rules apply. At the bell come out drinking, singing and swinging.

Happy St Patrick's Day,

paddy
